Mark Stewart for Hartford - Three Districts 2026

Mark Stewart, a Democrat known as "Stewart for Hartford", has declared himself as a General Assembly Candidate. He will run as an "independent" aided by the "EPIC Party", a group he co-founded as a party that publicizes and facilitates the "outs".

He seeks seats in three districts that have frequently gone without challengers, one each in Hartford, East Hartford, and West Hartford. He is happy to have EPIC cede two of these spots to vigorous "liberty-minded" candidates, and welcomes "new blood" contacting him from the Republican, Libertarian, Independent, Green, and Cheaper Gas Groceries parties.

Mr. Stewart encourages similar candidacies for rarely contested seats held by "statist Democrats" throughout Connecticut, but especially in metro Hartford, New Haven and Bridgeport. His ideal is to have candidates from many parties, including the few liberty-minded Democrats, running either independently or with EPIC, which stands for "Every Politically Independent Citizen".

The Legal Framework

Independent candidacies for multiple seats are permitted by CT law. Should a candidate win in two districts, the one in which he does not choose to take domicile holds a special election in early 2027. "That would be monumental", says Stewart. "An independent who wins two seats and leaves one open then paves the way for more independents to do the same."

Campaign Priorities

Stewart's priorities in campaigning, and if elected, are:

  1. Pulverizing Crime in CT
  2. Ending wasteful state activities (including ending DMV)
  3. Allowing a federal tax opt-out (reducing citizens' federal taxes 55% to 75%)
  4. Bringing more business to Connecticut (including those fleeing NYC)
  5. Establishing universal school choice funded by vouchers
  6. Making Connecticut even better for tourism and sports

Stewart accentuates the last with a private-public effort to bring an NHL team back to Connecticut. The state would provide no money, but would be a deep guarantor. The reverse of his signs show an old-style whale and the catchphrase "Make Connecticut SKATE Again!"
